Glaucoma is a defect in the drainage of aqueous fluid – a substance secreted into the eye – that results in elevated intraocular pressure.
If drug treatment, such as drops that reduce intraocular pressure, does not succeed, the treatment is performed with surgical intervention, in which the aqueous fluid is drained to relieve pressure on the inner tissues of the eye.
